Common questions
What's the difference between Konos Digital and Konos 2?
Konos Digital is the new flagship: its beam width is continuously variable (Variable Cone Technology, 60°-300°) and it streams five channels of audio over IP - four independently configurable beams plus on-board Konos Select noise suppression on the fifth. It's an AES67 / SMPTE ST 2110 broadcast microphone with PTP clock sync. Konos 2 is the established field recorder - three fixed beam settings (Narrow / Medium / Wide), recording to a 7-channel micro-SD WAV in which the selected set (main beam, rear complement, and Konos Select) carries the audio - and does not include PTP.
How does Variable Cone Technology work?
VCT changes the width of the forward pickup cone, from a 60° pencil beam to a 300° room. You simply choose how much of the scene it takes in.
What audio formats and resolution does Konos record?
Both capture 24-bit / 48 kHz audio. Konos 2 records to a 7-channel uncompressed WAV on micro-SD, where the selected pattern set (main beam, rear complement, and Konos Select) carries the audio; Konos Digital streams five channels over the network as AES67 / SMPTE ST 2110 - four beams plus the Konos Select channel.
Can I get the raw signal from every element on Konos Digital?
Yes. Besides its five-channel AES67 stream, Konos Digital can stream all 80 MEMS elements as separate, unprocessed 24-bit / 48 kHz channels for your own beamforming, direction finding or research capture. Konos Control records it - for a set duration or until you stop, as plain WAV that opens in any audio editor - or you can take the stream into your own client. It needs a Gigabit link and a capture client (it is not a standard AES67 stream), runs one session at a time, and runs alongside the five-channel stream - the AES67 feed keeps going while you capture.
How do I update firmware?
Firmware updates are delivered through the Konos Control app. Connect your microphone, open Konos Control, and install the latest version when prompted.
Can I record without a mixer or DAW?
Yes, on Konos Digital. Konos Control records straight to your machine - the five-channel stream, or all 80 elements raw - for a set duration or until you stop. Both are plain WAV files that open in any audio editor, and an 80-channel capture needs a wired Gigabit link (a phone works on a USB-Ethernet adapter). You can also monitor the five-channel stream in the app while you aim the beam. Konos 2 records to its own micro-SD card.
Is there a warranty?
Konos hardware carries a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects. There's no online registration to complete - keep your proof of purchase, and contact us to start a claim.
